Collective Worship

Children at St Peter's take part in a daily act of collective worship. As a Church of England school, this is a special time for our school community to celebrate, reflect and enjoy being together. Our collective worship is always:

  • Inclusive
  • Invitational
  • Inspiring

Our Collective Worship theme this term is Living Well Together:

What do our children say about Collective Worship?

Year 1/ 2:

  • Assemblies are a time to show kindness and learn about kindness
  • We hear stories from the Bible – we know lots of stories from the Bible- some are called parables and Jesus told them to people to help them understand.
  • We always have a prayer and its important
  • We don’t have to join in with prayer, but I do – sometimes I pray when I’m outside too – I like praying outside.
  • Assembly is a time for God and to think about God
  • Assembly is a time to show love and to say hello to each other

Year 3/ 4:

  • We learn about the parables and the bible
  • I call it ‘wake up and meet time’
  • Its for prayers. Prayers are good because we get to know people’s different views about praying.
  • Its like a newspaper- that is the story of what’s happening in the world. Assembly helps to be a newspaper about the world and our school- it helps us to learn about things that are happening and think about them.
  • They give us time to stop and think. I’d miss not stopping and thinking.

Year 5/ 6:

  • It’s to meet together, to learn about Christianity and Jesus
  • We do it because we are a church school
  • Today’s worship was about the Widow in the temple giving all her money
  • I learned a lot from that story – she gave everything she had!

Each week we focus on a Christian value. This is linked to our school values, British values and SMSC. We also link it to key Bible stories and passages.

Our reflection area shows the weekly theme of our worships and provided opportunities for our children to think deeply, reflect and respond to the weekly themes.

Our collective worship is structured into four parts:

  • Gathering
  • Engaging
  • Responding
  • Sending
